Why is Working in Construction a Good Idea?
Did you know that October is Careers in Construction Month? That means that builders all over the country are proactively seeking experienced construction workers and skilled craftsmen to join their teams. From residential to commercial to industrial, construction is back on the rise and now is a fantastic time to consider a career in that field.
Since the end of the Great Recession, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has measured notable increases in the amount of open construction jobs on the market. According to the National Association of Home Builders, many construction workers left the industry during those lean years. Some have returned, but many have not. That has left a void in the market that needs to be filled by qualified applicants. The opportunity is there and growth is on the horizon, so it is an ideal time to pursue a construction career.
As more custom homes, residential developments, commercial and industrial properties are built, more skilled workers are needed to complete construction on time. In addition, we’re seeing major needs for other key roles like plumbers, drywallers, electricians, landscapers and painters. So, no matter what level experience you have, there is plenty of room for career growth.
“As the housing industry continues to recover, we are training more workers and leaders to fill these important roles,” said NAHB Chairman Ed Brady.
If you have ever wanted to pursue a career in construction, now is the time to take advantage of the great education available and help fill that void in the market. Builders need more workers—and better workers—to help build the American Dream for many generations to come.
